The "Lloyd Approved" logo zooms in

Snob: In the tradition of other great biopic movies, (Posters for...) such as The Aviator, Capote, Raging Bull, and, (Back to the Snob) uh, wait, uh... this movie, uh, notoriously got pretty bad reviews, so, uh, okay.

More posters

Snob (VO): In the tradition of Wired, The Babe Ruth Story, and Gable and Lombard, (Pan down on the poster for...) we've got the 2018 John Gotti biopic Gotti. (Crossfade to a real-life photo of Gotti) Gotti was the former head of the Gambino crime family who would later die in prison (Film footage) of throat cancer in 2002 at the age of 61. It's quite possibly one of the most fascinating poorly-received movies (Poster for...) since, ironically, Battlefield Earth! (Back to Gotti) A passion project for nearly everyone involved, most notably its producer and star, John Travolta, this was a movie that remained in development hell for several years. First announced as a movie about (Pan across a photo collage) the life of John Gotti's son, John A. Gotti, (Back to the film) the film passed through several directors, such as Barry Levinson and Nick Cassavetes, with a supporting cast that would have included Al Pacino, Lindsay Lohan, Ben Foster, Joe Pesci, and many others. Director duties were ultimately given to Kevin Connolly, (Cut to the opening credits) plus the screenwriting credits went to Lem Dobbs, (Posters for...) previously of The Limey, Dark City, and The Hard Way, (IMDb page for...) plus it was co-written by character actor Leo Rossi, (More images follow) who can be seen in films from Halloween II to the Relentless series and Fast Getaway. (Back to the film, again) The Gotti family was even personally involved with the film, gave their blessings to the star, John Travolta, whose own cars appear in the film, plus some of the wardrobe and accessories that he wears belonged to John Gotti personally.

Snob: So... what went wrong? Who turned states witness against the movie Gotti?

Logo for Ingenious

Snob (VO): Hell, one of the many production companies behind the movie (Freeze-frame) is literally called Ingenious!

Snob: Is the movie really that bad to justify zero positive reviews, or were the critics just being trolls, like the ad suggests!

Cut to a tweet by the film's official Twitter account, which consists of a video with text reading "WHO WOULD YOU TRUST MORE? YOURSELF OR A TROLL BEHIND A KEYBOARD" while a "Got-ti!" chant is played

Snob: Ohhhh, movie critics, just a bunch of sheep!

The opening titles start

Snob (VO): Doesn't matter to me, the movie (Freeze-frame and zoom in on a credit for...) was released by MoviePass. That means I used my AMC A-List and saw it for free. (The film resumes) I don't know, all great biographies start (Cut to John Gotti [Travolta] himself on a bridge) out with a character introducing the movie after they've died!

John Gotti: New York is the greatest fuckin' city in the world. My city.

Snob: I want all movies made about me to begin in similar fashion. (Cut to him on his front porch in the rain, looking over Springfield, IL) This city! This frickin' city! Springfield, Illinois! MY frickin' city!

To be continued
