Doug: What happens when Darkwing Duck thinks his daughter is dead? That's the "happy" question they start off with in this one.

(The title card for "Time and Punishment" comes up.)

Doug (vo): "Time and Punishment" was released in 1992.

Doug: It's my all-time favorite Darkwing Duck episode. I'm very excited to look at it. Let's take a look.

(The show's opening sequence is shown.)

Doug: Darkwing Duck, of course, was on during the Disney Afternoon, and it was one of my particular favorites because it was, uh, probably the only Disney show at the time that had a superhero that was also an egomaniac.

Doug (vo): In any other universe, he would probably the villain...

Doug: ...because he's so full of himself and it often gets in the way of him...

Doug (vo): ...achieving his goal. But because the show was so funny, and they could...

Doug: ...write him in a way where he was still sympathetic. And even though he was usually doing it for the wrong reason, he was doing it for the...you know, glory and fame and such. He was still very likable.

Doug (vo): And one of the great things about it, too, is because he's a comedic superhero. You can do satires...

Doug: ...of other superheroes, which you will see later in this.

Darkwing Duck: NO! I work nights! You should have been home in bed hours ago!

Doug (vo): He, of course, has an adopted daughter named Gosalyn, played by...

Doug: ...the late, great Christine Cavanaugh, who you may also recognize as... Dexter, uh, Chuckie, and a slew of voices.

Gosalyn: I wouldn't miss the scene where the chainsawing cannibals beg for mercy from the slimy mutant slugs.

Doug: And again, at a time when Disney didn't always do...that great...kid characters that could often be very annoying, uh, Gosalyn was very, very funny...

Doug (vo): ...and very much a part of the show. She wasn't just the kid...

Doug: ...that always had to be saved. She saves...the heroes a lot of times...

Doug (vo): ...and does so with some very funny, very relatable dialogue.

Doug: Especially if you're a kid, you really relate to Gosalyn.

Darkwing Duck: We're the crime fighters. You are the obedient daughter who stays put.

Doug (vo): And of course, the great Jim Cummings as Darkwing Duck...

Doug: ...who I found out improvised all the "I am the noun that verbs your other noun".

(An example of said phrase is shown.)

Darkwing Duck: I am the batteries that are not included!

(Back to "Time and Punishment".)

Darkwing Duck: I'm serious, Gos! If something happened to you...I don't know what I'd do!

Doug (vo): So moments like this show...

Doug: ...that he's an incompetent, but still a caring, father. And again, that's a sweet moment, but you'll also find it's gonna lead to some very demented stuff in this episode, too.

Megavolt: Okay, the Time Top's all charged up and ready to go bye-bye!

Quackerjack: Do you realize what this means?

Doug (vo): You got two classic villains here. Uh...

Doug: Megavolt and Quackerjack, played by Dan Castellaneta and Michael Bell...

Doug (vo): ...who -- I just found out -- was Duke from G.I. Joe! Again, that really...

Doug: ...shows you the range that made these voice actors have.
